jpnn.com, JAKARTA – PT Mitra Stania Prima (MSP), one of the tin companies that is a member of the Indonesian Tin Exporters Association (AETI), supports the gradual downstreaming of tin.
The Director of Inter-Institutional Affairs of PT MSP, Harwendro Adityo Dewanto, said that the government should take several steps toward tin producers so that downstreaming can be realized according to plan.
PT MSP is one of the subsidiaries of Arsari Tambang located in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
“We believe that the government needs to provide a timeframe that is affordable for pure tin ingot business players, so that the downstreaming transition can run well, thereby minimizing the ‘threats’ that will occur,” said the man who is familiarly called Didit in Jakarta, Thursday (1/9).
“For that reason, a study on the profitability of downstreaming is needed, considering that domestic tin consumption is still small and a number of downstream products also have expiration periods, such as Tin Paste and Tin Chemical,” he added.
Didit hopes that tin ingot export activities can still run in accordance with government regulations that have been in force until a domestic demand market is formed that can absorb national production.
“We also hope that in the future the government can formulate policies that can encourage mineral downstreaming strategies, through the provision of incentives to business players, whether in the form of fiscal, financial, infrastructure, and others,” he hoped.
In addition, Didit said that imports of solder products and other tin products should be stopped when downstreaming is implemented to maximize domestic tin absorption.
According to him, if tin downstreaming is to be carried out, tin chemical has quite large potential for state revenue in the future.
Therefore, Didit said, the government should make regulations that support the process and ensure that it is carried out by domestic companies.
“If, for example, it provides added value for the country, then what we can develop in the future is tin chemical. Then if that is implemented, it means that if we want to move downstream, of course investment facilities must be provided, land infrastructure, tax holidays, ease of financing, and others,” he explained.
Tin chemical is a derivative product of tin metal mixed with chemical materials for the purposes of producing plastics, PVC, and the like. (cuy/jpnn)
